Tooth Coloured Fillings

We Can Make Your Ugly Metal Fillings Disappear.

The bonded Composite filling material will make your tooth look completely natural again, as if it’s never been filled.

Composite filling material comes in different shades. This helps in blending it to a colour identical to your tooth colour. Composite fillings are also ideal for cosmetic smile alterations like changing the colour or shape of your teeth.

What is a tooth filling?

The damage resulting from tooth decay or fracture is healed by a dental filling. It restores a decayed or previously filled tooth to its normal appearance. Dental fillings today are tooth-coloured, which blend very well to tooth enamel and are able to bond to the remaining tooth structure.

Types of fillings:

Composite Fillings

The most common fillings today are composite fillings. They are natural-looking and are made of composite resins. During the filling process, composite fillings start soft and are hand-shaped as the procedure progresses. A blue light is then used to cure the composite to harden it. Composite fillings are highly durable and bind well to the enamel of the tooth.

Amalgam Fillings

Many years ago, amalgam fillings, or more generally called silver fillings, were the most popular fillings. However they have fallen out of favour in recent years. Amalgam fillings are a combination of metal alloys that can contain mercury traces and are dark in color and have been regarded unfavorably. Many people prefer to substitute these silver fillings with fillings that are tooth-colored.

Porcelain Fillings

To repair heavily-filled teeth or when a significant amount of tooth structure has been damaged, porcelain fillings are used. They are stronger than composite white fillings and are more robust. They are tooth-coloured and often bond to tooth structure. For teeth with more than 60 percent tooth structure loss, this choice is viable.

Fissure Seals

Our molar teeth often have deep pits and fissures that make it difficult for our toothbrush bristles to clean, resulting in a breeding ground for decay or cavities caused by bacteria. Fissure seals are dental sealants used as  protection against plaque, bacteria, and food particles to fill the pits and fissures.

What happens during a filling procedure?

Your dentist will speak to you about your choices prior to any filling procedure to decide which filling form will be better suited and how to prepare for them.

In order to numb the tooth and surrounding structures, local anaesthetic will be administered in the area during your visit. The decay is then normally removed using a dental drill. Once the tooth is sound and a solid tooth structure exists, before filling material is placed, the cavity is disinfected and dried. Before checking your bite and ensuring it is comfortable, the dentist will shape and heal the filling to harden it.
