Getting new teeth to restore your smile has never been more straightforward with dentures. At Glenferrie Dental, we offer a range of reliable tooth replacement options, with dentures falling on the more affordable side of the spectrum. While the process can vary from individual to individual, the general process can take between 3-6 weeks. Here’s what you can expect when getting dentures:

Step 1: The consultation

Your initial consultation is quite important. It is during this session that your oral health will be assessed and impressions of your mouth will be taken to evaluate how exactly we can design your new dentures. If you need any removal of teeth (extraction) in the next appointment, you can also choose to have an “immediate denture”, and the arrangements for this will be made during your consultation. There will be a great amount of information shared during this appointment to give you an idea of your possible treatment plan.

Step 2: The secondary impressions

If you don’t opt for immediate dentures, secondary impressions will be taken of your smile using custom-made trays to determine exact details regarding the anatomy of your mouth. Trial dentures will be designed out of wax in order to pinpoint precise details, including shape and positioning of your final set of teeth. Our dentist will also help you finalize on the colour and quality of your new dentures.

Step 3: Healing after extraction

If you need teeth extracted, you will need to give your gum tissue time to heal after extraction before placing your new dentures. This healing period can generally take between 6-8 weeks, but this can vary from individual to individual. Temporary immediate dentures will be placed for the time being to prevent your jawbone from deteriorating.

Step 4: Your new teeth

After your gum tissue has healed completely, it’s time to have your new teeth fitted in! It might feel sore or strange as your facial muscles adapt to your new teeth, but this should resolve over a period of a few weeks. Follow-up appointments and adjustments might be necessary to ensure you have perfectly fitted dentures. Want more information on getting dentures?
